St. Edward's
Who’s going? Members of the J2A class (Chaveevah, Ethan, Juwan, Katie, Kelsey, Mike, Shekia, and their adult chaperones: Father Paul, Debbie and Stephen Partrick) When is the trip? The group will leave Lawrenceville on June 6th and return June 13th, 2008. Where are they going? Besides Georgia, ten eastern states will be visited during the pilgrimage. A few of the major cities will be: Columbia, Greensboro, Charlotte, Norfolk, Yorktown, Williamsburg, Philadelphia, New York City, and New London. What will they be doing? The group will visit 17 Episcopal churches. Some of those churches date back to the early 1600’s. The group will also visit the site of 9/11 and tour St. John’s and St. Paul’s chapel to learn how the Episcopal Church responded to this tragedy. The burial site of Bishop Seabury is another destination. Besides our educational plans, we hope to have a little free time in Williamsburg. Why is the J2A group going? At the end of the 2 year Journey to Adulthood program, the students are supposed to explore their spirtuality by going on a pilgrimage. We have decided to do this by looking at the beginnings of the Episcopal Church in the United States. How will the group travel? We will travel all together in one van. We are being hosted by various congregations along the way. Some have offered to feed us and are allowing us to roll out our sleeping bags in their buildings. We are thankful that some are doing this for a nominal fee and some at no charge. We were also able to find lodging at The Seafarers and International House and at the Bishop Claggett Center. PLEASE come out and support our J2A class and youth on April 26th from 4pm-8pm. There will be outside activities for children and young at heart and a silent auction offering Meals, gifts, and vacation spots. Tickets will also be on sell for the dinner being served From 5pm -7:30pm and there will be evening entertainment provided. We hope to raise over $4000.00 to pay for the J2A Pilgrimage and for additional youth activities at St. Edward's, your participation is greatly appreciated. |
